Their world was so violent. I mean, breaking the guy’s neck because you disagreed with him? And it was just no big deal. Crick. Down he went.

Poor Soran.

He seemed nice enough. Genuinely worried for Vex’s safety. I didn’t know much about Ruche other than he could rock the hell out of an apology, thought I was sexy, and wanted to eat me.

I coughed to cover a laugh, frowning quickly as Vex quirked a brow my way.

There was definitely something going on with us. That hug was so perfect, and I swear he’d almost kissed me twice more. Which, of course, I’d be all over, but talk about super confusing.

I was totally okay with being his friend if that’s all he wanted. I could keep my feelings to myself, I was a grown ass woman. But our chemistry was off the charts.

Never mind the part of me that desperately wanted him to unleash all that roughness on me, especially those fangs. A shiver wound through my spine as we stepped out in front of an utterly nondescript building.

The next second, Vex’s jacket was around my shoulders, and he adjusted his cuff before banging on the grey door.

I allowed myself a secret smile as I tugged the jacket tighter and breathed in his scent. “Thank you.”

“Not at all.” He smiled at me, swiveling back to the door when a thin window slid open, revealing a pair of golden eyes.

“Passphrase?”

“Purple daffodils taste the best.”

I giggled and Vex tossed that sexy wink my way like it was a weapon he intended to kill me with.

The window slammed closed and the door swung open, revealing the massive owner of those eyes.

I was staring, gawking really, at a gorgeous, eight-foot muscular wall who stepped straight out of one of those charity calendars with sculpted firemen holding puppies.

“Good night, Irene,” I mumbled breathlessly.

Vex shot me a confused look.

The giant took a sniff of the air, and his pupils swallowed his eyes, black overtaking the gold in a near instant. “ ‘Ello,” he rumbled, giving my body a slow, heated once-over. “Feeling’s mutual, luv. Word of advice, though, keep that in check once the fights start, or you might not live through the night.”

My cheeks nearly burst into flames, my glasses fogging a little. “Oh my g—I didn’t mean—I’m sorry.”

He smirked and stepped to the side. “Don’t be. It’s good to be noticed.” He winked and pointed to a door at the end of the hall. “Through there. Knock on the next door. Matty will show you to the box. Jericho’s expecting you. If you need to take care of anything before hand,” he gave me a pointed brow raise, smirking deeper, “locker room’s bottom of the stairs on the left.”

Great, now I had another contender for most embarrassing moment of my life, both involving my stupid libido. I tucked my chin to my chest, intent on speeding past and pretending none of this ever happened, but he ducked right as I got to him and whispered, “I’m off me shift at three if you want help.
